I thought I'd take a look at some of the bright LED flashlight products available out there, just to get a feel for what's currently on the market. So I went and searched around online a bit, trying to find sort of a sample type of product.
After a search for bright LED flashlights, I found something called the Compact Super Bright Luxeon LED Flashlight - Black Satin Weatherproof Aluminum - Holster and Gift case. Quite a mouthful of a name there. And some of the words strike me as a bit odd. Compact, I get. Super Bright, of course makes sense. But Satin? And how can something have black satin and yet also have aluminum? Strange, strange.
It says that the Luxeon LED is ten times brighter than the regular super bright LED flashlight, and has a 100,000 hour lifespan. Hmmm. 100,000 hours. That's how many days? About 4,000 days? That's how many years? Maybe something a bit more than 10 years? That doesn't sound so bad. At the same time though, I'd take claims like this with a grain of salt since it's quite easy to over promise and under deliver. The product's just 4 inches long so the flashlight is supposed to be pretty convenient and portable. Makes sense.
It's supposed to be durable, weatherproof, and very cool looking (I kid you not. The description actually says, cool looking.). Talk about self praise. Again, the black satin aluminum body. Black satin aluminum? I think maybe there's something here I don't get. The grip is supposed to be textured to allow for a firm grip, which also makes sense. It says that the LED flashlight can provide up to 20 hours of light, powered by 3 AAA batteries which are included in the package. And the product comes with a 1 year warranty.
Actually, going through the product description, it just seems a little bit to enthusiastic for my taste. Granted, it's the official product description so of course it's supposed to sell the product, but I don't know. Anyway, I'm looking at the customer reviews now.
The first one I see says that the brightness is good, and the flashlight is of a nice compact size. The reviewer bought several in order to make use of them as promo items. He says though that there was a problem whereby when the flashlight gets moved around, the light flickers or goes out, but then when the flashlight is moved around some more, the light returns. That doesn't sound so good.
I'm thinking I'll continue to read about the bright LED flashlights available for sale online, and maybe I'll write a bit more about some of the products that jump out at me.
